The Global Infrastructure Asset Report 2025 reveals further growth in the influence of GIIA investor members in privately financed infrastructure around the world.
The total value of infrastructure assets under management (AUM) has grown to US$2.2 trillion, up almost 10% on the previous year and more than double the figure at the end of 2020.
This year-on-year growth in the value of AUM underpins the increasing influence of GIIA as the global voice of infrastructure investors, with the report showing a total of 2,855 assets across 68 countries.
The Global Infrastructure Asset Report is produced in collaboration with associate member EY, one of the world’s largest professional services firms.
It shows that the largest number of GIIA investor members’ assets are in mainland Europe (865), followed by the UK (802) and USA (523).
However, measured by the yardstick of total value, the USA ($511bn) comes out top, followed by continental Europe ($485bn) and the UK ($341bn).
GIIA members bring very significant benefits to the communities where they operate. In the year to 31 December 2024, member-owned airports handled 1 billion passengers, roads carried 35 million vehicles per day, ports moved 1 billion tonnes of freight, and digital networks connected more than 50 million people. The 2.1 million kilometres of transmission and distribution networks would go more than 50 times round the world. These infrastructure assets underpin jobs, economic growth, and quality of life.
The report also shows a total of 218 acquisitions during 2024, helping to deliver both clean power and digital connectivity, and integrating low-carbon power generation into resilient grids to meet surging demand for AI-driven data.
Jon Phillips, chief executive of GIIA, comments:
“The continuing growth of infrastructure as an asset class is enabling ever more private investment, that in turn is helping governments close the funding gaps between what they can afford and what their citizens need.
“Thanks to the world’s leading investors, our members, we are further building our global voice with governments, regulators and policymakers.”
