Maryland has cemented its recognition of the importance of bringing private investment to the table as part of modernizing local infrastructure, with the establishment of its Center for Public-Private Partnerships through MEDCO – the Maryland Economic Development Corporation.

Underlining the importance of embedding P3 collaboration, Jon Phillips, Chief Executive of GIIA, said:

“P3s can play a vital part in building a stronger America, particularly at state level where infrastructure projects can be designed and delivered in close collaboration with the communities they impact. We urge more governors to follow in Maryland’s steps and consider how they can help create a supportive environment for P3s, which deliver important projects, while relieving the burden on taxpayers”.

The recently published USA P3 Report Card – the first-ever state-by-state grading of the readiness of U.S. states to use public-private partnerships (P3) for public benefit – found several strong examples of states leading the way in their readiness to do so. Maryland itself received an ‘A’ grade as part of the report.

The P3 Report Card was produced by the Global Infrastructure Investor Association (GIIA) and P3 Bulletin – an intelligence provider to the P3 sector.  You can view this in full on the P3 Bulletin website.
