Jon has served as acting CEO since December, stepping up from the role of Deputy CEO and Director of Corporate Affairs. He joined GIIA in 2016, shortly after it was founded, and has played a key role in the organisation’s membership growth and development to become a leading voice for infrastructure investors in their engagement with policy makers and regulators. He brings a wealth of experience from previous senior roles in the nuclear energy and aviation sectors, with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and with BAA.
Jon said; “The global challenges of meeting net zero targets, developing resilience to climate change and digitally connecting communities mean the need for private investment in modernising and developing our infrastructure is greater than ever.
“I am excited to take on this role and the opportunity to further develop GIIA’s growth and impact. I want us to continue to strengthen our capability to help policy makers around the world create the stable and consistent frameworks that enable our members to invest to the ultimate benefit of consumers, communities and those saving for their retirement.”
Christopher Frost, Chairman of GIIA, said: “Jon has made a huge contribution in developing GIIA since its early days, and in leading the organisation over the last six months. I’m delighted that he is now firmly in the driving seat.
“Markets around the world faces huge infrastructure challenges and opportunities that governments cannot tackle through public funding alone. Private capital brings expertise, innovation and efficiency that can help to transform the infrastructure we all rely on. GIIA’s role is to help build better understanding of the positive role that private investment in infrastructure can deliver for all stakeholders.”
GIIA has grown to almost 100 members, who are collectively responsible for more than US$1.6 trillion of assets under management in 70 countries around the world, including over 200 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity, 450 ports and airports, and 180,000km of roads and railways.
The organisation helps members through building contacts, partnerships and influence with national and state governments that set policy and control investment decisions. Key markets include the US, UK, EU and Australia. Core infrastructure sectors where GIIA members are active include power, gas and renewables; ports, airports, rail and road; water and wastewater; and digital, fibre and communications.
