Renewed optimism sets the tone at GIIA’s annual gathering of members with global interests

This year our conference embraced some of the biggest infrastructure themes: latest moves in global geopolitics, the outlook for the energy transition and world energy supplies, best practice in regulation and developments in fast-moving digital

Darren Jones, Chief Secretary to the Treasury and number two to the Chancellor Rachel Reeves (above), set out the UK Government’s plans for a 10-year infrastructure strategy intended to create the stability that investors seek.

Our conference also saw James Heath, CEO of the National Infrastructure Commission; John Flint, CEO of the National Wealth Fund (formerly UK Infrastructure Bank); and Juergen Maier, Chair of GB Energy, on a public platform together for the first time.

They explained the critical roles each of their institutions will play in shaping the future of UK infrastructure. While there is still work to do on how these organisations will work together, there was a clear ambition to create opportunities for private capital, and to resolve project delivery bottlenecks. This sets the stage for future collaboration between GIIA and these key enablers of investment in the UK.
