Investing in Sustainable Infrastructure for a Greener Future

This week, in partnership with our host UBS and sponsors KPMG and CMS, we held our first ESG conference bringing together industry leaders to address the pressing need for resilient, sustainable infrastructure amid global environmental challenges

At our first ESG-focused conference, discussions centered on how ESG and sustainable investment can provide value to investors, whilst trying to steer clear of the usual conversations about regulations and reporting requirements.

The conference provided GIIA members with multiple examples of best practice on integrating ESG considerations, investing in new technologies, active supply chain management, and practical advice on mitigating greenwashing claims.

Our conference, which was graciously hosted by UBS, and sponsored by CMS UK, and KPMG, served as a platform to address pressing challenges and opportunities in the sector.

The discussion highlighted a number of key points:

  • ESG is good for business and a fundamental part of a successful investment strategy, not just about compliance.
  • Investors can create novel solutions to tackle decarbonisation challenges by leveraging their existing portfolios to create synergies between their assets.
  • Innovation plays a key role in improving operational efficiency in assets (technical advancements in data centres can significantly reduce energy demand).
  • Engagement and buy-in are crucial for the success of infrastructure investments. Collaboration can drive meaningful change.
  • Investors must be serious about sustainability goals to attract and retain talent.
  • Staying nimble is necessary to keep abreast of the evolving regulatory and reporting landscape; greater harmonisation and standardisation of ESG regulations are needed across markets.

At GIIA, collaboration is key. We bring together investors, thought leaders, and practitioners to address sustainability and ESG-related challenges. Investing sustainably is not only about regulatory compliance but also provides significant value to investors and, importantly, wider society.

Thank you so much to all participants, speakers, and sponsors for making this conference a resounding success.
