Prime Minister Mark Carney’s speech at the inaugural Canada Investment Summit highlights a market that has truly put infrastructure at the heart of its growth ambitions! And as referenced in his address at the Summit, our Pulse Survey of GIIA members from earlier this year clearly shows international investors are paying attention.
The Pulse results showed Canada ranks as the most attractive country in the world for infrastructure investment, because as Mr Carney highlighted at the Summit: “Canada has never been more connected or ambitious”.
The Summit has successfully pulled the biggest investors from around the world to Canadian soil. Significant opportunities have already been announced, including private investment opportunities in four of Canada’s international airports and GIIA members’ Brookfield and CPP Investments $50bn Maple Fund.
And together with members MSCI Private Assets and PwC Canada, GIIA was present for two busy events diving into the very real opportunities present in the market.
Our forum with MSCI Private Assets brought together a select group of senior investment leaders including representatives of Canada’s leading pension funds, GPs, asset managers, and investment consultants. The session focused on exactly how ambition is turned into firmly deployed capital, through the right frameworks and tools which underpin long-term investment decisions.
Supporting PwC Canada’s ‘Building North’ event, we explored the driving forces behind Canada’s current infrastructure moment – from major projects policy, through to energy and defence. This included contributions from senior industry leaders as well as the Major Projects Office, which continues to play a critical role in translating policy into credible project structures.
A huge thanks to our partners, members, and all those who joined us at such a pivotal moment for Canada. In the global race for private capital, Canada is showing how clear policy and government direction can help a market pull ahead.
