Thanks to the success of our inaugural Berlin Meeting Hub & Members Lounge, which provided high quality facilities for members attending the Global Summit, we are delighted to have made a substantial contribution to a charity that acts on behalf of our industry.
More than 25 of our members supported and sponsored our Meeting Hub & Members Lounge in Berlin, thanks to which we were able to make a £75,000 donation to UK-based charity the Infrastructure Industry Foundation (IIF).
The IIF’s Social Mobility Initiative is a programme that supports students from less advantaged backgrounds with mentorships and intern work experience, inspiring and better equipping them to seek roles in our industry and bringing in a new generation of talent.
Our chief executive Jon Phillips said, “Given both GIIA’s role as the global voice of investors, and my own as a trustee of the IIF, I am convinced of the importance of sustaining our industry’s ‘license to operate’, not only through the economic growth and jobs that infrastructure investment creates, but also through supporting something more tangible that touches people directly.”
Jon announced the donation via a video played at the IIF’s Gala Dinner, which raised a record £1.2 million on the night for a range of social mobility and health causes that the charity supports. GIIA was represented by our Director of Corporate Affairs, Simon Montague, and Director of Policy & Public Affairs, Harvey Chandler.
